A constantly amusing, often laugh-out-loud comedy about suicide. No easy task, reconciling humour with death. Sure, out-and-out black comedies do it all the time but Wilbur is different: a gentle, wistful romance, full of marvellously off-key humour. It’s hard to think of a recent film that’s as wildly idiosyncratic and as perfectly realised as this comic drama. It provokes wry smiles and guffaws in equal measure, and it works beautifully as a piece of alternatively tragic and feel-good drama. |
